1Unplug the filter at the power supply and take it to a sink with a bucket of water from your aquarium.
2Remove the lid and lift the carbon cartridge out, letting the water drain. Slide the sponge out of the carbon cartridge and rinse it gently in the tank water by squeezing.
3Rinse the carbon cartridge by shaking it under the water in the bucket. Aqua One says the ceramic cartridge (HFX 100, 150 and 200) is not taken out at routine cleans or cleaned with tap water.
4Fit the new ceramic cartridge in its slot. If the one in use gets very dirty, Aqua One says to give it a gentle rinse in a bucket of aquarium water, never tap water.
5Tip the dirty water out of the filter body, hang the filter back in place and refill it with aquarium water. Refit the lid, plug it in and check that water flows.
