How often to descale
Descale when the descale light comes on.
After descaling: If the descale light stays on after the cycle, fill the tank to MAX with fresh water and run the rinse again.
How to descale with the DLSC500

- 1Empty the water tank and take out the water filter, or the SoftBalls on La Specialista models, if one is fitted. Empty the drip tray, and the grounds container on bean-to-cup machines.
- 2Pour one 100 ml dose of descaler into the tank and add water as your manual says: on tanks marked A and B, descaler to A and water to B. If the manual gives no amount, add 1 litre.
- 3Put a container that holds at least 2 litres under the coffee spouts and the steam wand or hot-water spout, then start the descale programme. Magnifica S: hold the descale button for at least 5 seconds. Dedica: hold the button for 10 seconds until the lights flash in turn. Machines with a display start it from the descale prompt or the settings menu.
- 4Let it run until the tank is empty, turning the steam or hot-water dial when the machine asks. It takes about 20 minutes on La Specialista, 25 to 30 on Dedica and 45 on Magnifica S.
- 5Rinse the tank, fill it to MAX with fresh water and run the rinse. Put the water filter back.
