  1. 1Descale when the descaling light comes on (steady: due soon; flashing on the BCC12: needed before more drinks). Take any softener filter out of the tank first.
  2. 2Fill the tank to MAX with water and Smeg descaler in the dose the pack recommends.
  3. 3Put a container of at least 1.4 litres under the coffee and steam spouts. BCC12: hold keys 26 and 24 together for 3 seconds to start.
  4. 4Stay nearby; the cycle takes about 30 minutes and pauses to let the descaler act. If the light stays on at the end, there was not enough solution: run another cycle.
  5. 5Rinse: fill the tank to MAX with clean water and start the rinse (BCC12: key 24) until the keys light white.
