The 868686 (Haier part H0060869187, F&P system FWC5) is the internal cartridge shared by the Fisher & Paykel RF500Q and Haier HRF580 and HRF680 quad door fridges. Both brands sell it for $69.95 and recommend replacing it every six months. Haier's HRF680 guide says to lift the filter cover, turn the old filter a quarter turn anticlockwise, fit the new one and use the panel's filter reset.

How long it lasts

After fitting: HRF680YPS/YPC control panel has a dedicated Filter Reset selector (key D); the guide does not state a hold time. F&P models: press the two indicated buttons together for 4 seconds.
Flow slows and taste drops off as the filter fills up. Changing on time is the whole point of the filter.

Fitting it
A few minutes, no tools. Watch it done, then follow the steps.
- 1Open the fridge door and find the filter housing at the top of the fresh-food compartment; on most models a small cover flips down.
- 2Turn the old filter a quarter turn anti-clockwise and pull it straight out. A little water may drip; keep a cloth handy.
- 3Take the caps off the new filter, push it into the housing and turn it clockwise until it stops.
- 4Run 4 litres of water through the dispenser to flush the carbon, then reset the filter light (hold the filter or reset button for 3 seconds).
