How long it lasts

Replace it when it is torn or damaged, Honda says; wash it in warm soapy water and re-oil it each time you clean the air cleaner (every 3 months or 50 hours).

1Stop the engine and let it cool, then pull the cap off the spark plug.
2Remove the air cleaner cover and take out the filter; separate the foam from the paper element.
3Wash the foam in warm soapy water (or a non-flammable solvent), rinse it and let it dry completely. Replace it if it is torn.
4Soak the foam in clean engine oil and squeeze out the excess; too much oil makes the engine smoke at start-up or soaks the paper element.
5Refit the foam and paper element, then the cover, and tighten or clip it securely.
