1Pull out the mains plug and close the hose taps before you take the filter away from the aquarium.
2Open the clips, lift off the pump head and take out the pads.
3Take out the carbon pad and fit a new one: EHEIM says adsorptive media such as carbon should only be used for a short time (about 4 weeks) and then removed or replaced.
4Put the pads back in EHEIM's order: blue coarse pads first, then the white fine pad, with the black carbon pad as the top layer. In a newly set-up filter, EHEIM says to remove the carbon pad after about two weeks.
5Refit the pump head (check the sealing ring) and close the clips. Make sure the filter is empty of water when you reconnect it, open the suction-side tap and let it prime before you plug it back in.
