Replace it as needed: EHEIM gives no set interval and says its pads can be reused many times over (rinse and squeeze them out, so the bacteria living in them are not all washed away).
How to change the filter media in your EHEIM classic 250
Watch the guide or follow the steps.
- 1Pull out the mains plug and close the hose taps before you take the filter away from the aquarium.
- 2Open the clips, lift off the pump head and take out the pads.
- 3Rinse the blue coarse pads and squeeze them out: EHEIM says they are reusable many times over, and rinsing and squeezing keeps the bacteria cultures alive. Fit new coarse pads in place of any you are replacing.
- 4Put the pads back in EHEIM's order: blue coarse pads first, then the white fine pad, with the black carbon pad as the top layer. In a newly set-up filter, EHEIM says to remove the carbon pad after about two weeks.
- 5Refit the pump head (check the sealing ring) and close the clips. Make sure the filter is empty of water when you reconnect it, open the suction-side tap and let it prime before you plug it back in.
