How to change the filter media in your Fluval 206

Watch the guide or follow the steps.

Fluval 07 Canister Filter Series | General Maintenance · Fluval Aquatics (official)
  1. 1Unplug the filter and close the hose valves (the AquaStop valve on 06 and 07 series filters) before you disconnect it.
  2. 2Open the filter and lift the media baskets out of the canister.
  3. 3Rinse foam in water from the aquarium; rinse BIOMAX in aquarium water only: Fluval says never to rinse it with tap water.
  4. 4Fit new foam in the same place every 6 months. Fluval says not to replace all filter media at the same time: change the foam and the BIOMAX at different services.
  5. 5Put the baskets back in the same order, close the filter, then prime and restart it as its manual describes.

Every 6 months. It works less well as the filter fills up, so it's worth doing on time.

How do I fit the A222 in a Fluval 206?
No tools, a few minutes: 5 steps, listed on this page with the replacement video where the maker has one.
What happens if I don't change it?
Spent carbon stops removing odours and discolouration, and clogged pads slow the flow, so the filter moves less water through the tank.
