How to change your BRITA filter
Steps for the A 1000 under-sink filter cartridge (A1000), the water filter 3 BRITA models take. Change it every 6 months.
No clear video for this water filter yet. The steps cover it.
- 1Put a container under the flush hose and open the locking handle on the filter head; this shuts off the water to the cartridge.
- 2Press the flush valve to let the pressure out of the system.
- 3Take the old cartridge out of the filter head. The cartridge pivots 90 degrees in the wall bracket to make this easier.
- 4Fit the new A 1000 into the head and close the locking handle.
- 5Run the filtered tap until the water is clear and free of bubbles (at least 1 litre), then reset the timer: press DISPLAY, then hold START/RESET for 5 seconds.
Reset the filter light
Press DISPLAY briefly, then hold START/RESET for 5 seconds until a long beep; the 180-day timer restarts.

Common questions
- How often should I change a BRITA filter?
- Every 6 months for the A 1000 under-sink filter cartridge, the most common BRITA water filter here. Each model page shows the interval for its own water filter.
- What happens if I don't change the water filter?
- The carbon stops reducing chlorine taste and odour and the flow from the tap slows as the cartridge clogs; a boiling-water tap with a scale-reducing filter builds scale in its tank faster.
- Does BRITA make a compatible filter?
- BRITA makes the genuine filter. Compatible filters for BRITA models are made by other companies to the same shape and flow rate, and Australian sellers we track list both; each part page shows the genuine and compatible prices side by side and the certifications we could confirm.
- How do I reset the filter light on a BRITA tap or under-sink system?
- Press DISPLAY briefly, then hold START/RESET for 5 seconds until a long beep; the 180-day timer restarts.
