How long it lasts

Replace it when the blades or bolts are worn or damaged, with new bolts, nuts and washers as a set so the blade disc stays balanced, Victa says; check them before you start the mower.

1Stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug lead, moving it well away from the plug. Put on heavy gloves. Do not lay the mower on its side.
2Work from the grass catcher flap with the rear flap secured, or tilt the handle back so the front wheels lift and the spark plug points up.
3Undo each blade nut while pressing the bolt head up into the blade disc so the bolt cannot turn, then remove the old blades, bolts and washers.
4Fit the new blades with the new bolts, washers and nuts in the order shown on the pack, pushing each bolt head into the disc. Change both blades together.
5Tighten the nuts firmly; Victa's domestic manuals give 14-19 Nm.
