How to change the foams in your PondMAX pond filter
Steps for the PF2500 pressure filter sponge set (13PF052), the filter 2 PondMAX models take.
- 1Turn off the pump and unplug the filter's UV-C from the power. PondMAX says to disconnect the power before any maintenance.
- 2Undo the inlet and outlet hosetails, unclip the lid clamp and carefully lift off the lid. Take care not to lose or damage the O-ring seal.
- 3Unscrew the clear locking screw under the sponge layers (the black base plate on the bigger models), undo the screw holding the stainless steel shaft, remove the base plate and slide the foam rings off the centre core.
- 4Fit the new sponge rings onto the centre core, alternating blue and yellow. Rinse any sponges you keep in pond water or dechlorinated water, never tap water: PondMAX says chlorine kills the good bacteria.
- 5Clean out the canister but leave some of the brown sludge on the bio media, refit the lid with its O-ring, fasten the clamp and reconnect the hoses. Turn the pump on, then plug the UV-C back in.
