How to change the valves on your Medela breast pump
Steps for the PersonalFit Flex connector with membrane (2-pack) (101041898), the valve 6 Medela models take.
- 1Wash your hands with soap and water and dry them on a clean towel.
- 2Take the connector off the bottle and breast shield, squeeze both flaps and swing the lid up, then lift out the old yellow membrane.
- 3Wash and sanitise the new connectors and membranes before you use them for the first time.
- 4Push the yellow membrane, flap first, into the opening of the connector body so it seals all the way round the edge, then close the lid until it clicks.
- 5Screw the connector onto the bottle, push the breast shield in and plug the short end of the tubing into the connector.

Common questions
- What happens if I don't change the valve?
- A stretched or torn valve or membrane lets the suction drop, so each session takes longer.
- Does Medela make a compatible valve?
- Medela makes the genuine valve. Compatible valves for Medela models are made by other companies to fit the same models, and Australian sellers we track list both; each part page shows the genuine and compatible prices side by side.
