  1. 1Stop the steam and unplug the steamer (SC 1 Upright: press the steam switch with your foot; SC 1 Multi: tap the steam switch once).
  2. 2Take the water tank off (SC 1 Upright: press the latch up and pull the tank out, then open its cover; SC 1 Multi: hold the tank at the side and pull it down) and remove the used cartridge.
  3. 3Fit the new cartridge and press it until it clicks. SC 1 Multi: slide it at a slight angle under the two plastic ribs with the KÄRCHER lettering the right way up. SC 1 Upright: write the date on its label.
  4. 4Refit the tank. SC 1 Multi and Multi & Up: hold the steam switch while you plug in and keep holding it for 7 seconds; it flashes green when the timer has reset.
  5. 5Steam for 20 to 60 seconds to vent the new cartridge before you start cleaning.
