How long it lasts

Replace it when a blade is worn, bent, cracked or damaged, as a set, Honda says; inspect the blades for damage, cracks and rust, and have a dull blade sharpened.

After replacing: No reset needed.

How to change the blade in your Honda HRU196

Watch the guide or follow the steps.

No clear video for this part yet. The steps cover it.

  1. 1Stop the engine, turn the fuel valve off and disconnect the spark plug cap from the spark plug. Wear thick leather gloves.
  2. 2Tilt the mower onto its right side so the fuel cap side is up; Honda says this helps prevent fuel leaks and carburettor flooding.
  3. 3Hold the blades so they cannot turn and remove the blade bolts, then take off the old swing-back blades.
  4. 4Clean grass and dirt from around the blade disc and check the disc for damage; replace it if a blade has hit something hard.
  5. 5Fit the new blades as a set with the blade-setting bolts, washers and lock nuts shown in Honda's parts diagram (Honda says to use only Honda genuine bolts and washers), and tighten them firmly. If you do not have a torque wrench, Honda says to have a Honda dealer tighten the blade bolts.
