How often to descale

Descale every 3 months or 300 capsules, whichever comes first, or when the machine shows its descaling alert.

After descaling: The descaling alert clears once the descale and rinse cycles finish. On Vertuo Next, Pop and Pop+ the cycle cannot be stopped; if the machine is unplugged it restarts in descale mode and both cycles must run again. Creatista and Lattissima models lock after a set number of drinks if the alert is ignored.

Creatista Uno - Descaling · Nespresso (official)
  1. 1Allow about 15 minutes. Open and close the lever to remove any capsule, then empty and clean the capsule bucket, drip tray and water tank and put them back.
  2. 2Fill the tank with 500 ml of water (the DESCALE mark), make sure the drip tray is in, and add one bottle of descaler. Put a 1 litre container under the coffee outlet and steam wand.
  3. 3With the machine off, hold Ristretto and Steam together for 5 seconds until both stay lit; pressing any unlit button backs out. Press Ristretto or Steam to start; both blink and the milk froth lights show progress.
  4. 4When it finishes, tip out the container, empty and rinse the tank, and fill it with fresh water to MAX. Put the empty container back and press Ristretto or Steam to rinse.
  5. 5Repeat that rinse once more. After the second rinse, Ristretto and Steam flash three times and the machine turns off; rinse the drip tray and tank and put them back.
