How often to descale

After descaling: The descaling alert clears once the descale and rinse cycles finish. On Vertuo Next, Pop and Pop+ the cycle cannot be stopped; if the machine is unplugged it restarts in descale mode and both cycles must run again. Creatista and Lattissima models lock after a set number of drinks if the alert is ignored.
How to descale your Nespresso Vertuo Lattissima

- 1Descale when the descaling alert blinks, and allow about 20 minutes. Open the head to eject the capsule, then close it and turn the lever to lock.
- 2Empty the drip tray, used capsule container and cup support. Pour both bottles of descaler into the water tank and add water up to the descale line.
- 3Plug the descaling pipe from the back of the machine into the milk carafe connector and put the tank back; the cappuccino button lights up. Put a container that holds at least 1 litre under the coffee outlet and pipe nozzle.
- 4Press the cappuccino button. The solution runs through the coffee outlet, pipe and drip tray, and the latte macchiato button lights up when the tank is empty.
- 5Empty the drip tray, used capsule container, cup support and container, then rinse the tank and fill it with fresh water to MAX. Put the container back under both outlets and press the latte macchiato button to rinse.
- 6When the machine is back in ready mode, remove and store the pipe, empty the drip tray and capsule container, and refill the tank with fresh water.
