How often to descale

Descale every 3 months or 300 capsules, whichever comes first, or when the machine shows its descaling alert.

After descaling: The descaling alert clears once the descale and rinse cycles finish. On Vertuo Next, Pop and Pop+ the cycle cannot be stopped; if the machine is unplugged it restarts in descale mode and both cycles must run again. Creatista and Lattissima models lock after a set number of drinks if the alert is ignored.

Nespresso Gran Maestria: How To descale your Gran Maestria machine · Nespresso (official)
  1. 1Turn the machine off, set the Espresso button to 4 and the Lungo button to 1, and open and close the lever to eject the capsule. Empty the drip tray and used capsule container.
  2. 2Hold Espresso while you turn the machine on until the middle light is steady orange. Pour both bottles of descaler into the water tank and fill to the MAX line with water.
  3. 3Put a cup on the cup heater and hold it down on the three ribs, emptying the drip tray whenever it is nearly full, until the middle and right lights stay steady. Empty the drip tray again.
  4. 4Put a container that holds at least 1.5 litres under the coffee outlet and press Lungo; the right light blinks. Don't touch the machine while it starts and stops, until the tank is empty.
  5. 5When the left light starts blinking, empty and rinse the drip tray, used capsule container and water tank, fill the tank with fresh water and turn the Lungo dial to 2. Hold the cup down on the ribs once more to rinse the cup heater, then rinse the cup.
  6. 6Put the empty container back and press Lungo to rinse the coffee outlet. When the lights are steady, empty the container and drip tray.
