How often to descale

After descaling: The descaling alert clears once the descale and rinse cycles finish. On Vertuo Next, Pop and Pop+ the cycle cannot be stopped; if the machine is unplugged it restarts in descale mode and both cycles must run again. Creatista and Lattissima models lock after a set number of drinks if the alert is ignored.
How to descale your Nespresso Vertuo Next

- 1Allow about 20 minutes, and empty the drip tray and capsule container first. Descale mode can't be interrupted or exited; if the machine is unplugged part-way, you'll need to run both the descale and the rinse again.
- 2Pour one bottle of descaler and 500 ml of water into the water tank. Close and lock the head to turn the machine on, wait for a steady light, then open the head to eject the capsule, close it and leave the lever unlocked.
- 3Hold the button for at least 7 seconds until it blinks quickly. Within 45 seconds, turn the lever to lock and back to unlock, then hold the button for at least 7 seconds again.
- 4Put a container that holds at least 1 litre under the coffee outlet, lock the lever and press the button. The machine stops by itself when the descaling phase is done.
- 5Empty and rinse the water tank, drip tray and cup support, fill the tank with fresh water and press the button to rinse. The machine stops by itself when the rinse is done.
- 6When the button stops blinking and stays steady, descaling is finished. Let the machine dry for 10 minutes before you use it.
