How often to descale

Descale every 3 months or 300 capsules, whichever comes first, or when the machine shows its descaling alert.

After descaling: The descaling alert clears once the descale and rinse cycles finish. On Vertuo Next, Pop and Pop+ the cycle cannot be stopped; if the machine is unplugged it restarts in descale mode and both cycles must run again. Creatista and Lattissima models lock after a set number of drinks if the alert is ignored.

Nespresso Gran Lattissima - Descaling · Nespresso (official)
  1. 1Descale when the descaling alert shows orange, and allow about 20 minutes. Lift and close the lever to eject any capsule, then empty the drip tray, used capsule container, cup support and drop collector.
  2. 2Pour one bottle of descaler and 500 ml of water into the water tank. Plug the descaling pipe from the back of the machine into the steam connector and put the tank back; the machine goes into descaling mode and Flat White lights up white.
  3. 3Put a container that holds at least 1 litre under both the coffee outlet and the pipe nozzle, then press Flat White. The solution runs through the coffee outlet, pipe and drip tray until the tank is empty.
  4. 4Empty the drip tray, used capsule container, cup support and drop collector, rinse the tank and fill it with fresh water to MAX. Press Flat White again to rinse.
  5. 5When the machine switches off, remove the pipe using its handles or knobs and store it, empty the drip tray and capsule container, and refill the tank. Wipe the machine with a damp cloth.
