How often to descale

Descale every 3 months or 300 capsules, whichever comes first, or when the machine shows its descaling alert.

After descaling: The descaling alert clears once the descale and rinse cycles finish. On Vertuo Next, Pop and Pop+ the cycle cannot be stopped; if the machine is unplugged it restarts in descale mode and both cycles must run again. Creatista and Lattissima models lock after a set number of drinks if the alert is ignored.

New Nespresso Expert - How to Video - Descaling your machine · Nespresso (official)
  1. 1Allow about 20 minutes. Empty the drip tray and used capsule container, then pour both bottles of descaler into the water tank and fill it to the MAX line with water.
  2. 2Put a container that holds at least 1.2 litres under the coffee outlet. With the machine off and the slider closed, hold the brewing button for 6 seconds until both dials flash.
  3. 3Turn the recipe dial to the Ristretto icon and press the brewing button, then turn the temperature dial to the high level (I) and press the brewing button again. The Ristretto icon blinks while the machine is in descaling mode.
  4. 4Press the brewing button to start; the solution runs through the coffee and hot water outlets. When the machine stops and the maintenance light blinks, empty the drip tray, put it back and press the brewing button to carry on until the tank is empty.
  5. 5Rinse the water tank, drip tray and cup support, fill the tank with 1.2 litres of fresh water and press the brewing button to rinse. Empty the drip tray when it stops; the machine switches itself off when it's done.
  6. 6If the maintenance light still blinks after the rinse, there was less than 1.2 litres in the tank, so repeat the rinse. Before you confirm on the temperature dial, you can back out by opening the slider.
