How often to descale

On Vertuo Next, Pop and Pop+ the cycle cannot be stopped; if the machine is unplugged it restarts in descale mode and both cycles must run again. Creatista and Lattissima models lock after a set number of drinks if the alert is ignored.
How to descale your Nespresso Vertuo Up

- 1Allow about 15 minutes; once descaling starts, it can't be interrupted. Open the lever to eject the capsule, take out the maintenance module and empty its capsule basket.
- 2Fill the water tank with 600 ml of water, add one bottle of descaler, close the lid and put the tank back. Remove the cup support and put a container that holds at least 1.5 litres under the coffee outlet.
- 3Press the coffee button once to turn the machine on. Hold the maintenance button for at least 3 seconds until the coffee button is steady blue, then release it and press the maintenance button twice so the coffee button turns steady orange.
- 4Close the lever and press the orange coffee button to start. This takes up to 5 minutes and the machine pauses by itself when done.
- 5Open the lever, empty the container, rinse the tank and fill it right up with fresh water; fill it only once for the rinse. Close the lever and press the orange coffee button to rinse, which takes up to 4 minutes and stops by itself.
- 6Rinse the tank, then take out the maintenance module, empty it and wash it in hot water with a mild, odourless detergent. Dry it, put it back and let the machine rest for 10 minutes before you use it.
